OUR 2007-09 THEME PASSAGE "Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago" (Ephesians 2:9-10, NLT). |
BELOVED MISSIONARY DOCTOR WAS A MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF CANADA Dr. Dorothy Timpany, who worked in India from 1939 to 1982 as a medical missionary supported by BWMS/BWOQ, died at her seniors' home in Nova Scotia on February 3. She was 95. Audrey Morikawa happily recalls the joy of knowing her as a "great woman of faith who lived her life in service for others." A tribute to this remarkable woman will appear in the May/June 2008 Link & Visitor. And look for her autobiography, Love Affair with India, in your church library. THE MAY/JUNE LINK & VISITOR: DESIGNED TO BEAR FRUIT (2) This Link celebrates the lives of adventure lived by Baptist women such as Dorothy Timpany, Judith Chambers, and Agnes Lee. Present-day adventurers Anne Woolger-Bell (Matthew House), Karen Robinson (Light Patrol), and Marie-Andree Cimon (YWAM, Alaska) share stories worth reading. And in our new advocacy column"What can One Woman Do?" Sarah Patterson shares from the heart about the effect of aggression on children. This winter Baptist women across Canada took part in the annual Great Canadian Bible Study. It looked at Hagar, a slave taken from Egypt and placed in the service of Sarai, wife of Abram. Download the study (.doc file) . Participants in this study were asked to contribute a Toonie toward women in developing countries facing oppression and injustice. One story of hope is the Eva Rose York Girls School in Tuni, India. It offers girls a brighter future than being sold into the sex trade or placed in abusive labour camps. The total amount collected during the study should be sent as a cheque to Baptist Women of Ontario and Quebec, marked Great Canadian Bible Study.
