“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.”  “Blessed are you who mourn, for you shall be comforted.”  (Luke 6:21; Matthew 5:4)

You’re still finding wrapping paper scraps in your family room, gifts have been returned, the last leftover-turkey casserole is defrosting and you’ve missed putting out the tree for recyling pick-up . . . again. The sparkle that lit the house over Christmas and New Year’s has dwindled to gloom. Or, perhaps you have been alone throughout the holidays . . . you have lost a loved one . . . your family is broken beyond repair. You are in the dumps!

You know God and have been redeemed and purified by the Babe in the manger, yet you cannot see Him.

Over the next four weeks, read the “Be-Attitudes” in Matthew 5 and Luke 6.  Aptly named, these words of Christ are not merely suggestions; they are promises and commands.  Imagine being told by the Creator of the Universe, the Saviour of us all, that weeping and mourning will result in comfort and laughter. David experienced the “mourning-to- joy” miracle. Hear his words:  “I waited patiently for the Lord . . . He heard my cry (and) lifted me out of the slimy pit . . . He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” (Psalm 40:1,2)

“God is not just a firm place to stand.  He’s a firm place to stay . . . We take the firm place He gives when we make up our minds and plant both feet.” Beth Moore, from Get Out of That Pit
So plant those feet firmly on the Word, and start laughing.
