RECOMMENDED READING FOR 2007-09: Books of the Bible: Job and Ephesians The following books were chosen because they develop ideas suggested by our 2007-09 theme, By Design. They are engaging and easy-to-read but not simplistic. Pass them around in your women's group or place them in your church library. Start a book club--you'll encourage each other to grow spiritually as you discuss what you've read. Or use one or two of these books as a study guide for a small special-interest group. Women by Design. Penelope Swithinbank helps us to be free to be ourselveswomen designed by God. 126 pp. $11.99 RECOMMENDED READING FOR 2005-07 Your God is Too Safe: Rediscovering the Wonder of a God You Cant Control is by Mark Buchanan, a Baptist pastor in Duncan, BC. His very readable book, Things Unseen, was on the 2003-05 reading list. God in the Alley: Being and Seeing Jesus in a Broken World, by Greg Paul of Sanctuary Ministries is a compelling, gritty, beautifully-written account of how God's love and mercy reaches into the darkness and despair of Toronto's inner city. Looking Forward to the Rest of Your Life? will inspire women of all ages to find purpose and fulfilment in midlife and beyond. Its a brand-new book by Lorry Lutz, who wrote the popular Women as Risk-Takers for God. In the Likeness of God is an updated edition of two classics by Philip Yancey and Dr. Paul Brand: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made and In His Image. For the price of one large book, you get two books that weave fascinating information about our bodies, global mission, and our relationships within the Body of Christ. Daughters of Islam, by Miriam Adeney, tells amazing stories of how Muslim women come to Christ. Miriam, who teaches at Regent College in Vancouver, also wrote A Time for Risking. Gods Story is a journey through Genesis 1-11 by Anne Graham Lotz, author of Just Give Me Jesus. This book also contains a Bible study guide for personal or group use. Genesis and Acts are the recommended boooks of the Bible. Kathy Root Parr prepared six-part guides for individual or group study. OTHER GOOD BOOKS The following books have been reviewed or excerpted in The Link & Visitor: When God Doesn't Answer Your Prayer, by Jerry Sittser, doesn't solve the mystery of unanswered prayer. But it will encourage you to keep praying. Counterfeit Code, by James A. Beverley, reveals the false beliefs popularized by The Da Vinci Code. Gardening the Heart: 40 Devotions for Thoughtful Women, by Joyce Bellous, leads you into a more intimate relationship with God. The Rest of God, Mark Buchanan's latest book, invites you to rediscover the blessing of Sabbath rest. In our new By Design program resource package you will find information about how to study and meditate on scripture in an old way that has become new again.
