OFFERING INSTRUCTIONS
ORDER YOUR ENVELOPES Offerings from Ontario and Quebec should be sent to the Baptist Womens Office (Etobicoke) and NOT directly to the NABWU Office. The BWOQ will transfer the funds to NABWU.
Baptist Womens Day of Prayer offering envelopes are available for $3.00 per 25, plus postage, from READ ON Bookstore (416-620-2934). Include payment for envelopes and postage with your order: Postage cost (including GST) is up to 50 is $3.00; 51-100 is $3.50; 100-150 is $4.00; 150-200 is $4.50; 200-250 is $5.00. Please order envelopes in multiples of 25.
The committee planning the Day of Prayer should order offering envelopes four to six weeks in advance, select a treasurer for the Day of Prayer and ensure that she receives this instruction sheet and the remittance form.
SUGGESTED PROCEDURE FOR DAY OF PRAYER OFFERING
Before the Service: Make offering envelopes available as people arrive, or in advance. Emphasize that:
The envelopes should only be used by persons requiring receipts.
Receipts will be issued only for offerings of $20.00 or more to the Day of Prayer.
All information MUST be printed legibly.
Please make cheques payable to Day of Prayer/BWOQ.
Day of Prayer offering receipts are mailed out at the end of the calendar year.
During the Service: Promote the worldwide projects to be supported by the 2007 Day of Prayer offering. See page 5 of the Day of Prayer program and the list of NABWU projects below:
After the Service:
Open the offering envelopes and verify that the amount of money (cash or cheque) in the envelope corresponds with the information recorded on the envelope. Also ensure that the donor's full name and address information is noted, and legible.
Separate the cash and cheques.
Count and total the cash from the envelopes, plus the loose offering.
Count and total the cheques.
Convert the cash to a cheque or money order made payable to Day of Prayer/BWOQ. Do not send cash through the mail.
Complete the Offering Remittance Form (above). Forward the Remittance Form, the personal cheques, your cheque or money order for the cash received and the offering envelopes for those requiring receipts to the Baptist Womens office: 100-304 The East Mall, Etobicoke, ON M9B 6E2.
If you wish acknowledgement of the offering you have sent, enclose a second copy of the remittance form along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and it will be signed and returned to you.
DAY OF PRAYER OFFERING PROJECTS, 2007
Half the Day of Prayer offering goes to the Baptist World Alliance Women's Department, to support the projects listed on page 5 of the Day of Prayer program. In North America, the other half of the offering supports projects chosen by the North American Baptist Women's Union. Your 2007 gifts will help support the following projects of various Baptist women's organizations that are members of NABWU.
NABWU Grants from 2007 Day of Prayer Offerings
Matthew House, Windsor, Ontario: ($5,000) Provide food cost for one year for a home that provides temporary housing for refugees while assisting them with immigration and integration into the community. This ministry, which receives a grant from BWOQ, is directed by Joanne King.
Leadership Development for Youth Mission Outreach, Milton, VT: ($1,000) Help youth develop leadership through Christian mission work in Elmira, NY
Angel Tree Camp, Harrisburg, PA: ($5,000) Support a ministry for children who have a parent in prison. Ministry includes summer camping and an after school/ tutoring/ mentoring program
Little Missionary Day Care & Play Group, Demerara, Guyana: ($5,000) Equipment and furniture for an expanded nursery school
Christian Women's Job Corps: 6 grants of $1,000 each. Trenton, TN: Assist with computer equipment; help with funds for child care, transportation and trained workers. Wichita Falls, TX : Help sponsor a 10 week class session for job and life skills.Tyler, TX: Provide funds for courses: Bookkeeping Basics and Financial Integrity at Work.Crofton, KY: Printed invitations, materials needed for volunteers, and food for a training event that will offer encouragement, teaching life and job skills to about 100 women. DeRidder, LA: Assist with upgrade of computer lab. New Goshen, IN: Help provide job and life skills to 10 participants and match them with 10 mentors.
