Dr. Lois Tupper

It is with sadness yet joy that Baptist Women remembers Dr. Lois Tupper who went home to be with the Lord on Monday July 5, 2010. She was 99.

Lois was a long-time member of MacNeill Baptist Church and a professor at McMaster Divinity College from 1948-1971, during which time she was also principal of the Women's Leadership Training Institute.

Lois was awarded her Doctor of  Divinity degree in recognition of her many accomplishments within the field of Christian Education . . . she was the first woman to assume a tenured faculty position with a seminary in Canada. Lois will also be remembered for the fine work that she did with C.G.I.T., the Canadian Council of Churches, the Baptist Federation of Canada and Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec.

She will be fondly missed by the many people whose lives she has touched profoundly. "She was a scholar, teacher, mentor and friend," remembers Audrey Morikawa, a former executive director of Baptist Women and a missionary to India.

A Service of Remembrance for Lois will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at MacNeill Baptist Church, Westdale. Donations in Lois' memory to MacNeill Baptist Church are appreciated.
